Irene Reig is one of the most outstanding representatives of the new Catalan generation of jazz musicians. Energy, passion and spontaneity is what we find in her repertoire of original songs along with her own versions of bop and hardbop classics.
Irene's interest in music was born at a very early age. At the age of 15, she entered the world of jazz as a saxophonist when she was part of the San Andreu Jazz Band, and later studied at ESMUC with professors such as Eladio Reinón, Gorka Benítez and Xavi Figuerola. She subsequently lives in Amsterdam, a city where she settles to study a Master's Degree in Interpretation supervised by Ferdinand Povel.
Reig, composer and saxophonist, already enjoys a long career flooded with references. Her first album as a leader, Views (DiscMedi / Blau, 2017), formalized by a quintet (including trumpeter and flugelhorn player John Swana) and made up of her own songs, evokes memories of Barcelona, Amsterdam and Philadelphia, three cities where She has lived. Her next two albums are as leader of The Bop Collective octet: the first is named after the band The Bop Collective (DiscMedi / Azul, 2018); the second is titled Iapsis (The Changes, 2019). Both offer original songs and arrangements full of personality and freshness that confirm the band as one of the national jazz revelations.
