Alek & Sophie is a scenic and participative proposal that aims to provoke and generate empathy, fantasy, dialogue and communication in a Martian and fantastic universe. In this piece we build an unknown place, created by volumes of circles and spheres that come to life. Beings from another planet will arrive to this world to interact and play with the terrestrial people. It is a surrealist work with plastic and pictorial magic, created through objects, dance, the relationship with technology and the participation of the audience. A "utopia of proximity" through a shared space, designed especially for children. Through the relationship between the different actors, materials and technologies, a spatial and sidereal journey is constructed. Bodies and dance are the vehicles leading to an unknown universe, where play and its organisation create a friendly and fun space, a magical world full of transformation and content. With Alek & Sophie we propose an artistic practice of resistance to the hegemonic models of relationship in the processes of production and exhibition. That is why we look at artistic movements such as Dada and Fluxus, and in particular we have worked in a conceptual way with two referential artists. Two key women in the abstract movement of the early 20th century: Sophie Taeuber and Aleksandra Ekster. The interest in these two artists is focused on the one hand on objectual and iconographic aesthetics, and on the other hand on disseminating their work as part of the movement towards changing the equivocal timeline of art history, written until recently under the heteronormative gaze of the white male.

Catalina and Gaspar created BAAL in 2013. It is formed by both of them and the people invited to each project. BAAL is characterized by its own language that arises from the exploration of the physical, social and emotional body. Catalina is the artistic engine of BAAL. With a degree in Contemporary Dance from the U.M.H, she has been trained in classical and contemporary dance, both in Spain and in England, Germany, Iceland and Denmark. While finishing her dance studies, she began to dance on TV, in Cabaret and later in professional companies in Spain, Chile and Germany. Winner of several competitions at the beginning of her career (Salto, Encuentros Navarra, Burgos / New York, Art Jove), Gaspar graduated in Physical Education in Spain and got her PhD in Biomechanics at the German University of Sport in Cologne. Much of his professional life has been dedicated to the study of human movement in biomechanics laboratories. In 2012 he left the laboratory he headed and embarked with Catalina on the Baal project. In addition to his own productions, he has also worked for other companies and in minor roles in some German TV productions.
