The first song Júlia Colom (Valldemossa, 1997) learned, at the tender age of seven, was "El Cant de la Sibil·la". This ancient song has endured for centuries in Mallorca, passed down from generation to generation. She, in particular, learned it from her grandfather, who managed to instil in her his love for singing, especially those songs transmitted orally, with whom she shares a great personal and artistic connection.
At the age of 18, Colom moved to Barcelona to study singing. During this period, she deepened her knowledge of jazz improvisation, composition, and production. In parallel, she travelled around Mallorca, meeting different rural personalities who still remember popular tunes to learn them and expand her musical imagination.
Júlia Colom's compositions are the culmination of such a singular journey. The influence of Mallorcan "tonades" in her music is undeniable and forms part of her musical DNA. It is inseparable from her personality as a composer, as we can appreciate in "Miramar", a debut album composed of original pieces and others of popular origin, thus becoming a celebration of oral transmission and the multiple lives that songs can live.
With this album, she has toured the regional, national, and international markets, performing at Primavera Sound, SXSW, Eurosonic, MIL, BIME, and M Pour Montreal.
