Palma.20.09.2017.- The Balearic Symphonic Orchestra, together with Àngels Gonyalons, performed at the opening gala of Fira B!, the first Balearic Professional Market for Music and the Performing Arts, that is celebrating its third edition up to Sunday 24th September in various venues around Palma. The audience enjoyed the songs, rhythms and scenes that have become most well-known in the history of musical theatre, including hits from very popular musicals such as A chorus line, Follies, Cats or Los Miserables.
The event was attended by the President of the Balearic Parliament, Baltasar Picornell; the Balearic minister of Culture, Participation and Sports, Fanny Tur; the general director of Culture, Joana Català; the director of the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, Francesc M. Rotger; and the manager of the Balearic Symphonic Orchestra, Pere Bonet, amongst other institutional representatives.
A few hours earlier, at the Sa Nostra Cultura Centre, the first of the Professional Sessions took place, with a Gathering of Classical and Contemporary composers and musicians, a networking space por international and local professionals that included the presence of Javier Estrella, from the Festival de Música Antigua in Aranjuez; Montse Faura and Eduard Balaguer, from Fringe. Festival de Torroella de Montgrí; Petteri Pitko, from the Finnish Baroque Orchestra (Finland); Antonio Gómez Schneekloth, from the label Odradrek Records; Cristoph Tymendorf, from the Euro Chamber Music Festival (Poland) and Dirk Van Kerkhoven, from Concert Line Artist Management (Belgium).
Over the next days, the most avant-garde Balearic musical and stage shows will make up the eclectic artistic offer of Fira B! (www.firab.org). Organized by the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics (Illenc), Fira B! is an initiative of the Balearic Ministry of Cuture, Participation and Sports in order to establish and consolidate the presence of Balearic artists beyond the islands. For this reason, a number of Professional Sessions will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre, with the participation of more than 400 professionals and some of the most outstanding national and international agents from all areas of the cultural creative process.
In the musical department, on Thursday 29th we will enjoy the Singer-Songwriter Showcase at the Sa Nostra Cultura Centre, with the performances of Jordi Maranges, Erik Goransson and Apol·lònia; and the Jazz Showcase, with the music of Enric Pastor & Co, Pere Navarro Quintet, Highlands Project, The Jazz Fingers and Lemon Emigrants. The Pop-rock and Indie Showcase will take place at Ses Voltes, with the concerts of Go!Man!Go!, Sweet Poo Smell, L’Emperador, No Room, Lava Fizz, Astrolabio, Go Cactus, Blaumut and Satellites.
As for the theatre offer, the play Trans-plantar by Diabéticas Aceleradas will be performed and the Catalina Valls Municipal Theatre; Las dos en punto, by As Marias, and Dolça Sodoma Meva, by La Trup, will be perfomed at the Mar i Terra Municipal Theatre; Por, by Cia. La Reforma, at Teatre Principal; Síndrhomo, by La Teta Calva, a piece that received a prize for best new authorship at the Max Performing Arts Prizes, will the shown at the Xesc Forteza Municipal Theatre; and Frontera, by Migrants, at the Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca. There will also be space for circus theatre, with the show Makam, by Cia. Makam, being performed at Miquel Maura Square (in front of the Xesc Forteza Municipal Theatre).
