The Argentine composer, Martin Matalon, will direct the premiere of the Ensemble Illes Sonores within the framework of Fira B!, which will be held in Palma (Mallorca) between November 11 and 14. This new musical group of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra (OSIB) will make its first concert on November 13 at 21:30h. in Son Amar. On this occasion, Ensemble Illes Sonores will perform Metropolis, Matalon's composition for the restored copy of the Fritz Lang film.
Matalon's work on Metropolis encourages a reflection on the superposition of narrative time, visual rhythm and musical agogic. During the concert, the public will be able to enjoy a great show and sound experience with the projection of the film.
With Ensemble Illes Sonores, the OSIB bets on the challenge of expanding its repertoire beyond the traditional symphonic one. Thus, Ensemble Illes Sonores will interpret contemporary pieces of the 21st century and will also cover their relationships and influences with the 20th century.
Martin Matalon was born in Buenos Aires in 1958, he studied at the Juilliard School of music in New York where he obtained a master's degree in composition. Its catalog includes a large number of chamber and orchestra works. Between 1989 and 1996, he founded and is the musical director of the Music Mobile assembly based in New York and dedicated to the contemporary repertoire. In 1993, he settled permanently in Paris where IRCAM commissioned him to do the music for the newly restored version of Metropolis by Fritz Lang.
